BIO:
The three members of Tarbaby – pianist Orrin Evans, bassist Eric Revis, and drummer Nasheet Waits – share core beliefs about acknowledging the over-arching tradition of the music while being true to one’s own story; together they’re an ensemble of serious intentions and riotous humor, fervid spirit and fierce intellect, passion and purpose. Individually their accolades include multiple Grammy nominations and notable collaborations with Branford Marsalis, Christian McBride, Dave Holland, Kevin Eubanks, Jason Moran and others.
The New York Times has hailed the trio for its, “advanced rhythmic calculus, sly harmonic implication, [and] cohesive elasticity.” 2024 will see two bold new releases: the live You Think This Is America, their first strictly devoted to piano trio; and a studio release featuring Ursula Rucker, JD Allen, Bill McHenry, and the pseudonymous “Prometheus Jenkins.” Tarbaby’s past releases have included collaborations with modern masters including Nicholas Payton, Oliver Lake, Marc Ducret and Ambrose Akinmusire.
